Welcome to ACT's 2020 Annual Report. This past year included many changes to our organization, including the creation of Advancing CT Together as parent company to AIDS Connecticut, The CT Association for Human Services, and The Connecticut Center for Harm Reduction. Upon completion of the creation of Advancing Connecticut Together, the board of directors and I immediately focused our attention on our continuing commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).
Please scroll down to review the outcomes we achieved in each of our divisions for 2020.
Despite difficult circumstances due to COVID-19, AIDS Connecticut continued to provide care services including medical case management, housing support, medical nutrition therapy, and psychosocial support for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Hartford community. Statewide services included financial assistance, rapid re-housing fiduciary services, quality assurance & technical assistance, training for service providers, and systems integration.

Sonia became involved with ACT at a very difficult time in her life when faced with an interpersonal violence situation, substance use, mental health struggles, and homelessness. She entered a Ryan White-funded emergency housing program. ACT staff "collaborated for greater impact" with the her community case manager to coordinate a homelessness assessment as well as a HOPWA application and representative-payee services. Using this multidisciplinary approach, we were able to "make measurable progress" as the client was housed with a transitional housing program and subsequently, Sonia was placed in an independent apartment where she now lives. She has obtained mental health support, discontinued using substances, and according to her case manager is the healthiest she has been in years. This is just one story of how working collaboratively with the community, housing organizations, and using internal resources helps us "lead through innovation" in the HIV community.
CAHS programs thrived in 2020, helping hundreds of people move closer to reaching their financial goals. Our Bank On, CT Money School, Financial Coaching, New Haven Financial Empowerment Center, and VITA programs continued to provide vital support to individuals and families throughout the state. We also added a new program, Hartford Financial Navigators, designed to help people manage the financial impact of COVID-19 through one-on-one telephone assistance.

2020 provided many challenges for our harm reduction services. Staff worked tirelessly to make sure our clients' needs were met while adhering to pandemic-related restrictions. Syringe services continued to be provided in Hartford, Middletown, and New Britain. We added at-home testing to our sexual health services and virtual training on overdose prevention. The Connecticut Community Distribution Center Program (CCDCP) continued to provide safer sex educational materials and prophylactics to communities statewide.
